Description

This geum has compound basal leaves ending in one much larger kidney or 3 lobed round leaf at the tip. This is where the common name arises. Leaves are hairy and become smaller as they go up the plant stem. Yellow flowers are produced throughout the summer and are replaced by velcro like seeds which latch onto passersby in order to be spread to new locations. It does well in moist areas with full sun or part shade and reaches a height of up to 3′. Being wide spread, many indigenous cultures used Large Leaved Avens in their medicinal treatments from teas to eyewashes.
