Willow, Pussy (Salix discolor) Alberta Native
Price range: $6.50 through $40.00 excluding_tax
Description
Probably the most well known willow for its soft grey catkins that appear in early spring before the leaves. Only one species is truly a pussy willow however, as any willow with early catkins seem to be generically lumped together. A great species for wet areas, arts and crafts, wind and snow breaks, water filtration and bio-fuel. Medicinally it may not have as high a content, but like white willow, it does contain salicin, the pain killing ingredient found in Aspirin. All willows make great early season pollinator food, as many bloom while there is still snow on the ground.
