Sedge, Knotsheath (Carex retrorsa) Alberta Native
Price range: $5.00 through $11.00 excluding_tax
Description
A wetland sedge with interesting spiky club like seed heads usually in a cluster or “knot” closer to the top of the plant with possible other single seed heads below. Growing 1-3 ft tall, this carex has a clump forming spray of basal leaves similar to Beaked Sedge but the seed heads, when they appear in mid summer are unmistakeably Knotsheath, as the lower seeds point downward. A great plant for more spacious wetland areas to provide habitat and food for wildlife, prevent bankside erosion and for water filtration. Larger carex also have abundant growth suitable for carbon sequestration.
