Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana) Alberta Native
$6.50 – $40.00 excluding_tax
Description
Although quite astringent in taste (hence its name), chokecherry makes a nice jelly or wine when sweetened. Indigenous people often used the leaves in their kinnikinnick or smoking mixture. Wilted leaves can be dangerous to livestock however, as they contain cyanide and wilting sweetens the taste. The pits contain cyanide as well so do not swallow them.
