Aster, Purple Stemmed (Symphyotrichum puniceum) Alberta Native
$5.50 – $12.00 excluding_tax
Description
This aster species has stiff hairy stems that turn purplish as they mature. The top portion of stems split into secondary branches which are covered with the lavender to violet rayed flowers. The flowers have yellow centers. The leaves are narrow and lance shaped. Purple Stemmed Aster likes sun but also moisture, so it thrives in wet ditches, marshy meadows and along the edges of waterbodies. In the right conditions this plant can get relatively large – 3′ or more tall with an almost equal spread, so be prepared to give it some room.
