Alpine Bistort (Bistorta vivipara) Alberta Native
$6.00 – $12.00 excluding_tax
Description
This smaller plant has the unusual reproductive ability to multiply from small bulbils grown in place of flowers on the lower spike. Quite often these start sprouting while still attached to the parent! The small flowers grow in white or pinkish stalks on the upper part of the spike. Basal leaves are more elliptical and progressively get narrower as they progress up the stem. The bulbils, young leaves and roots can all be eaten. Alpine Bistort grows in a variety of moist habitats and rarely surpasses 6″ in height.
