Processing Amadou Tinder
Since we are still buried in snow here, I figured what better topic than fire starter using Horse Hoof Fungus. This fungus is readily available in the Rosenthal Woods even in the dead of winter and once you prepare it, it’s a great portable fire starter (known as Amadou) – particularly using flint and steel or bow drill methods. The corky drier Chaga might require less effort to be fire starter ready but it’s also not necessarily as readily available. There are different variations, but the method depicted in this video, although a bit time consuming in the preparation phase, pretty much guarantees a reliable final product that will successfully start fire after fire.
