This plant species is more rare in Alberta due to the habitat it lives in (coulee slopes in the south eastern portion of the province), and the unique relationship it has with the yucca moth. If one has a drier full sun area, this is your chance to help the Soapweed population while obtaining a beautiful landscaping specimen. Yucca is a multi-purposeful plant as well, with the sharp leaf tips being used for fish hooks by indigenous people, the leaf fibers for cordage, and the high saponin content in the roots lending itself to lathering soaps and shampoos.
