Plains Tickseed (Coreopsis tinctoria) Alberta Native
Price range: $5.50 through $12.00 excluding_tax
Description
A native annual (though some may flower again for a second season) that grows generally 1 to 2′ tall, producing yellow flowers with wine blotched centers. While appreciating some moisture, it does not like to sit in wet soil so make sure that it is well draining. It is a dye plant that can produce both red and yellow dye, and both roots and tops have been used medicinally in teas for a variety of ailments. While deer resistant, it is irresistible to pollinators as the volume of nectar is high. Try it in a prairie landscape or container gardening.
