Obedient Plant (Physostegia virginiana) Alberta Native

Description
This is one of my favourite wetland plants! We use it when creating Puddle Gardens all of the time. A tidy appearance in a wild world, the tall pinkish purple spire of flowers tops a stalk of lance shaped leaves with slightly serrated edges. The leaves’ ability to turn in any direction combined with flowers staying in position when pushed, give it its common name. Another common name for it is False Dragonhead, perhaps because of its resemblance to the Dracocephalum family or maybe because the flowers look a bit like snapdragons. It is a member of the mint family and can grow 3-4 feet tall so keep it in a large wetland container or place it in an area where it can have some space because it will gladly take it! It can be used as a cut flower and pollinators including hummingbirds enjoy it.
