Description
Mature Serrano plants can get to be just under 5 ft high (0.5 – 1.5 m) in optimal circumstances, but are often 1 1/2 – 3 ft in shorter season or cooler climate conditions. It prefers warmer temperatures above 24 C (75 F). The fruit can be harvested when ripe, but is often harvested when green and used raw to make things like pico de Gallo as it retains its firmness when cut up. Its flavour has a bit more zip than a jalapeno. This pepper originated in the sierras of Mexico which is where the name Serrano arose.
