Description

This happy little flower looks like a miniature sunflower because basically that’s what it is! A member of the sunflower family that likes full sun and drier well draining soil. It can get up to 6 ft. tall in optimal situations, but is more often around the 3 ft. mark. The leaves are hairy and the flowers appear with the centers being more brownish red and the petals bright yellow. Other cultivars and hybrids with different colour schemes have been developed commercially but these are descendants of the original wild ones. A nice pollinator plant as well as a food provider for birds and other wildlife. Although somewhat time consuming, the seeds can be ground and kneaded into a spreadable seed butter.
