Description

Though it might be one of our more common asters, I personally feel this plant is anything but common. As the name suggests, this aster’s leaves are smooth to the touch which is fairly unique. Like a miniature shrub this prairie species is sturdy enough to remain upright due to its stiff stems and rubbery nature of the leaves. The lavender flowers come late in the season, but their profusion and ability to last far into the fall make it worthwhile to humans and wildlife alike. It should be a staple in any prairiescape!
